Health Care Systems

This course builds on existing and developing knowledge of the participants to enhance their understanding of the organization and operations of the healthcare system in Canada. It discusses the historical conceptualizations of the provider/client relationship and examines and explores the more recent concept of an integrated client-centred continuum in which individuals participate in defining and addressing their needs in the most appropriate setting. The course also focuses on the existing healthcare system by describing its major components. The roles of government and the health professionals are examined and provincial variations in the organization, funding and provision of health services are identified.
